switch crossplay steam

So. My friend have Tribes of Midgard in steam and I bought it on my Nintendo Switch Oled. But When I or He start a game neither one of us can find eachother. Not even via the search ability. I've noticed that the switch version is older than the version on steam. Could this be the issue? Or...
