Warden's Rune Carver skill allows us to obtain one more rune. Does it change the max amount of Golden Horns we get from Golden Eggs ?
What are Runes in Tribes of Midgard? (and how to use them)
What are Runes?
Runes are in-game modifiers that affect each run of Tribes of Midgard. They are items that you pick up, or equip before a match, and all 40 of them have very different abilities and effects.
For example, there’s a Rune called “Nothing to Hide” which increases damage dealt by 150 when wearing no pieces of armor. There’s also a Rune called “Harvest Boom” which when harvesting resources, creates an explosion causing medium damage to enemies nearby. As you can tell, the Rune effects vary quite a bit, and there can be different strategies depending on the types of Runes you hold in a run!
You can hold up to 5 Runes at a time, however the Warden class has an extra slot ability, allowing them to hold up to 6.
How many Runes are there in game?
There are 40 Runes total, and range in rarity from common to legendary. Here’s a quick reference image which recaps all the Runes currently in game.

As more Seasons release, there are often new Runes added. This sheet may be updated in the future!
How to get Runes?
There are several different ways you can unlock and equip Runes.
1. Starter Kits
Before you begin a run, there are some Runes that are available in Starter Kits, such as the Life and Death or Feral Starter Kit. Equipping a Starter Kit containing Runes will give you that Rune right at the start of the run!
2. Enemy/Chest Drops
While you’re in the game, enemies and treasure chests will drop Runes at a random rate and rarity. You will only receive drops for Runes you’ve unlocked the recipe for.
3. The Golden Altar
Another place you can get Runes in game is at the Golden Altar. This is located inside the building at the north-most location in your Village. However, you’ll be spending Golden Horns in order to roll a random Rune drop. As you roll a Rune, the amount of Golden Horns needed to be spent will increase.
How do Runes work?
How to unlock Runes
Some Runes will not be available to you if you’ve just started playing - meaning you don't have the recipe for them yet. If you head to the Shop in the main menu of the game, you can head to the “Accessories” section, and then to the "Runes" tab. Here, you’ll be able to unlock many more Runes using Golden Horns.
Some Runes may also be locked behind the Rewards track - to get those, you’ll have to level up!
Picking up a Rune
To add a Rune to your inventory, simply pick it up like you would any other resource. Remember, you can hold 5 Runes maximum, unless you’re Warden in which case you can hold 6.
How to use Runes
Their use is determined by their description, and their action will be triggered automatically.
So for example, if you have the Soul Powered Rune equipped (which deals 5 more damage per 100 Souls held, to a max of 10,000 Souls) you do not need to do anything to cause this to occur, it will naturally be applied as long as you’re holding Souls!
Can you drop Runes?
You cannot drop Runes currently, meaning you cannot give them to teammates or put them in a chest. To get rid of a Rune, you will need to choose to destroy it.
Do Runes stack?
Yes, some Runes do stack! In the Rune description, any value in “[]” brackets will stack depending on the amount of the same Runes you hold.

What does the Golden Egg Rune do?
The Golden Egg Legendary Rune will give you 2 bonus Golden Horns when you have it in your inventory when using the Bifrost! This stacks if you have multiple Golden Egg Runes for a maximum of 10 bonus Golden Horns.
What does the Eira’s Gift Rune do?
The Eira’s Gift Legendary Rune is a one-time use Rune that will revive you instantly when downed. After that time it will be consumed from your inventory.
